Nicolas Sourivongxay remembers moments at the school and the date October 12 was called "Dia de la Raza" (Day of the Race). For Nicolas, there was not a dichotomy, this means, the european conquerers arrived to the Americas to change the land for better. And in addition, it is a festive day to respect every different race of the population in the Americas no matter which country in the world they come from.
In the United States of America, the national holiday is called "Columbus Day", the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492. A welcome like a blessing to shape the land.
In Argentina, there was a change of the name from "Dia de la Raza" (Day of the Race) to "Dia del Respeto por la Diversidad Cultural" (Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity) in 2007. At a glance, Nicolas thought that last phrase had to do with the respect of race diversity in the Americas like "Dia de la Raza" (Day of the Race) established by a presidential decree in 1916 in the country, however, digging into the real meaning, the new name since 2007 only focused it on the recognizing of the value of indigenous inheritance in the Americas.
